The best thing about Mr.Panda hostel for me was how welcoming it felt. The staff, both the boys and girls working there, were friendly, passionate, and spoke good English. It felt like a big family, and I enjoyed the grape wine they made themselves. Mr.Panda said the grapes came from a small village and were never polluted; the wine was wonderful. I also stayed for two months and got to join in on things like making cookies, dumplings, and hot pot dishes. It's close to the city center on a quiet street with lots of local restaurants. The hostel is at 107# Zhengfu jie street, to the left of Exit E at Wenshu monastery station on Metro 1 line. Rooms are clean and very cheap, and the location is great. There are tours every day to Panda Breeding Base, as well as trips to Jiuzhai gou international park, Sichuan West--Chengdu/Kangding/Tagong/Bamei/Danba/Chengdu, and the Yangtze River. They also offer a budget tour, a one-day Panda + Big Budhha +Sichuan Opera tour, car rent, and a Panda volunteer tour. The owner Mr.Panda has lots of travel experience and spent around 1-2 years in Tibet. Many travelers got their Tibet permit and tour through him at a budget price. I'd recommend the hostel to everyone coming to Chengdu.

The staff made getting around Chengdu easy. Sometimes they even came along to help me find what I was looking for, and Mr. Panda was always around to deal with any worries or complaints right away. I didn't have any, though. One night he took a group of us out for authentic Sichuan food, too. I was in Chengdu for a few weeks on business and stayed at a few hostels, but Mr. Panda's Hostel was the one I enjoyed most. The rooms were clean, the atmosphere was GREAT, and I met lots of travelers there. It's about a 10 minute walk from Tianfu Square, on a quiet street with TONS of food and not much noise at night. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Chengdu.

The service was great, and the host was really helpful. It's an excellent hostel, and he has a very distinctive personality. I'd check with him about tours around the city or to Tibet.
