The breakfast spread was huge, with Chinese and Western dishes plus a pastry section full of cakes, cookies, croissants, and more. The pool was great too, and the views were lovely. We were so glad we stayed here during our visit to Chengdu. It’s one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in: beautifully decorated, with a big, comfortable room and even a massage chair.
The breakfast buffet was a real highlight, with fresh pastries and juice alongside a good mix of Chinese and Western food. I also liked how roomy and comfortable the room was, the effective AC, the massage chair, and the walk-in closet for clothes and luggage. I spent five nights at this Wanda Reign in September 2025. The main frustration was the cell reception. I was using an eSim to get around the great firewall, but even on the 37th floor I could barely get a signal in bed and kept losing the connection. I had to sit by the window or head upstairs to the lobby or restaurant for a stable signal. That genuinely irked me. The location also took more time to work with than I expected. There’s a 7/11 nearby and a couple of local eateries around the corner, but the major shopping centers are a 20-25 minute walk away, despite what another review says. Jinjiang Hotel station on line 1 is about a 12-minute walk, and Xinnanmen on Line 3/17 is about 14 minutes away. Neither walk is terrible, but the hotel is peripheral to Chunxi Road and Tianfu Square, so getting to either takes time.
Breakfast had plenty to choose from, and the breakfast team and concierge staff were warm, friendly, and helpful. The location was handy too, with a 7-Eleven a short 3-minute walk away and several shopping centers close by. For the price, the grand feel of the facilities and amenities stood out. I loved the massage chair, spacious bathtub, L’Occitane toiletries, and the thoughtful room design. Service needs work if the hotel wants to meet Forbes-recommended standards. The interactions felt robotic and lacked warmth or a personal touch, and both check-in and check-out were slow. At check-in, Dylan scanned my passport at the counter, then took it to the back office without explaining why. The process felt unclear and impersonal. When I tried to ask questions, he shut me off. Maybe there was a language barrier, but it still felt uncomfortable. At check-out, I was left waiting without an explanation. When I asked what was happening, I was told everything was settled and I could leave, with no thank you or farewell. I told the manager I was unhappy before leaving. It’s a solid 6/10 for me, worth experiencing once for the facilities, but I’m unlikely to return.
Everything was basically great, and the staff were helpful. The facilities were good, though some were a bit outdated, which felt manageable considering the price. The one exception was being given a smoking room. It smelled like smoke from somewhere.
The buffet breakfast covered Western and local food, fruit, cereal, and cheese. The location was convenient, and the room was spacious and comfortable, with both a bathtub and a shower. It was very clean and had complete amenities. The hotel may be old, with a Roman/Venetian design, but it’s still kept up well. There’s a gym too, though the equipment is old.
