The rooftop bar was nice, and the gym was excellent, with lots of machines and good equipment. Breakfast had a good spread, too. Most staff besides the greeters and main chefs didn’t speak English, though, and there weren’t vegetarian choices on offer. They were willing to quickly make something for me. The location is great, within walking distance of a mall, with a few pubs next door. Rooms are new and clean, the bathrooms are great, and the bathroom amenities are nice. Room service was a bit slow, probably because the hotel is so large. Communication at the front desk was difficult, and check-in and checkout took ages. I also saw guests wandering around the front desk in bathrobes several times. It wasn’t a great sight, and I wish management would set a stricter dress code for public areas.

The room was big and excellent, but I could hear the elevator from inside, so it was noisy. That’s not what I’d expect from a five-star hotel. Still, it’s one of the best hotels in Chengdu, with a great breakfast from 6:30 and lots of restaurants and bars nearby.

After checking out of the W Hotel Chengdu, I realized I’d left my favorite flannel shirt in the room. It means a lot to me, so I was worried it was gone for good. I contacted my China tour guide Dan Dan, who called the hotel for me. The staff found the shirt quickly and kept it safe. They handled everything with real care and professionalism, turning a stressful situation into a good experience. I’m grateful to Dan Dan and the housekeeping and lost and found team for rescuing my shirt. Their attentive, honest service really stood out.

I tried all the hotel restaurants, and the food was great. The pastry chefs and chefs did a good job with the high tea menu. The rooftop bar is lovely, with tasty appetizers and drinks, and breakfast buffet was up to its usual standard. Sarah and Christine at the lounge also took good care of us. It was my first time in Chengdu, and staying at the beautiful, well-located W Chengdu made it a great visit. The staff were welcoming and friendly.
