Wanda Reign Chengdu

I was there for five nights in September 2025. The room at this Wanda Reign was large and comfortable, with good AC, a massage chair, and a walk-in closet for clothes and luggage. Breakfast was excellent and worth the price, with fresh pastries and juice alongside a mix of Western and Chinese food. The location wasn’t great for getting around. There’s a 7/11 nearby and a couple of local eateries around the corner, but the main shopping centers are about a 20-25 minute walk away, despite what another review says. Jinjiang Hotel station on line 1 is roughly 12 minutes on foot, and Xinnanmen station on Line 3/17 is about 14 minutes. Those walks aren’t awful, but the hotel is on the outskirts of Chunxi Road and Tianfu Square, so reaching those areas takes time. My eSIM connection was also terrible in the room, even on the 37th floor. I kept losing signal while lying in bed and had to sit by the window or go to the lobby or restaurant upstairs for a stable connection. It really annoyed me.

The breakfast team and concierge were warm, friendly, and helpful, which I appreciated. The breakfast itself was great, with plenty to choose from, and the hotel’s convenient location meant a 7-Eleven was just a three-minute walk away, with several shopping centers close by. The facilities felt grand for the price. I loved the massage chair, spacious bathtub, and L’Occitane toiletries, and the room seemed thoughtfully designed. But the service didn’t feel up to Forbes-recommended standards. Many interactions seemed robotic and lacked warmth. Check-in and checkout were slow. At check-in, Dylan scanned my passport, then took it to the back office without explaining why. The process felt unclear and impersonal, and when I asked questions, he shut me down. Maybe there was a language barrier, but it left me uncomfortable. Checkout was similar. I waited without an explanation until I asked what was happening, then was told everything was settled and I could go. There wasn’t even a thank you or goodbye. I told the manager I was unhappy before leaving. I’d call it a 6/10, worth trying once for the facilities, though I probably won’t return.

Apart from being given a room that seemed to have smoke coming in from somewhere, pretty much everything was great. The staff were helpful and the facilities were good, though some felt a bit outdated. For the price, you can stay here.

The location is convenient, and the hotel is older, with Roman or Venetian style decor, but it’s still well kept. The gym is there, though the equipment is old. Breakfast buffet had Western and local foods, fruit, cereal, and cheese. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable, very clean, and fully equipped. It had both a bathtub and a shower.
