Crowne Plaza Chongqing New North Zone

The food was a real highlight. Room service brought me a double-decker sandwich with fries and Chongqing style wonton soup in the small hours, and both were excellent. The baked cheesecake I ordered for dessert was especially good. The bed was incredibly comfortable too, and the pillows were amazing. The room itself looked fancy and was a very high standard, but there was dust in the corners, broken appliances, and a mirror that had seen better days. It needed more polish for a 5* hotel. There are good facilities, including a small sauna and steam room in each changing room, and they’re included with the room. But the front desk staff didn’t seem to know what their own hotel offered. One person told me there was no sauna, then said it cost extra after learning there was one. I went down and found out it was included. Things like that happened several times. The pool had a lifeguard, but he was in jeans and outdoor clothes and seemed to sleep there most of the time. That felt very unprofessional. Service was all over the place, from helpful to downright obnoxious, and the hotel was often understaffed in different areas. They have a great cake stand, but each time I wanted to buy something I had to go find someone. Smoking is allowed throughout the hotel, which made for a horrible experience. They also made simple things unnecessarily hard. During check-in, they couldn’t extend my stay by one day without cancelling everything and starting again, which doubled the time it took. They showed no flexibility, and I often had to point out the easier way to handle a payment or sign something to my room. I’d suggest signing it to the room, they’d give an awkward smile and say that was how they did it there. Really dumb and annoying. There was no sense they wanted to make things easier for guests. It’s one of the better hotels in Chongqing, but it didn’t feel like a true 5* stay with refined service or easy access to things. Despite the comfortable room and excellent food, the lack of care in the service and presentation means I wouldn’t call it 5*. Still, it’s an enjoyable and very comfortable place to stay.

The views around this place are amazing, and it’s an easy trip from the airport, about 30 minutes away. The accommodation feels like a lovely sanctuary, and the staff are friendly. If you’re into golf, it’s a perfect spot.

Big, comfortable room and clean too. The hotel is close to the international airport, and breakfast is sumptuous. Excellent hotel.

The smoke was disgusting. The room and hallways smelled of it the whole time, and I developed a smoker’s cough even though I don’t smoke. I even thought about sleeping on the balcony for some fresh air, if there is such a thing in China. Worst hotel I’ve ever been to, simply because of the smoke.
