A great spot to stay overnight between Jiulicheng and Wulong. The ancient town is beautiful, with lovely scenery along the wujiang river.

The buildings have remained much as they were for hundreds of years, though some were moved here from nearby river areas that were due to be flooded by the 3 gorges dam. It’s an interesting old town and doesn’t seem to get many foreign visitors.

It wasn’t quite as pretty as I’d pictured, and parts of it are still under construction. Even so, I think it’s worth visiting.

The old town’s original location was submerged during dam construction, 200m below the river banks. What you see now is a beautiful town designed as a copy of that original.

The one-hour cruise on Wulung river had lovely scenery along the way, and the water looked clean. Ancient City Gongtan also has beautiful natural surroundings. It began during dynasty MING, after people gathered here a thousand years ago as the water level rose.
