Hyatt Regency Chongqing

We felt welcome from the moment we arrived. The staff were warm and professional, and they paid attention to the little details. The Chongqing Hyatt Regency is also right in a lively tourist area, with restaurants, shopping centers, and other amenities just a short walk from the lobby.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the location is excellent, but I ran into several service problems. English communication was very difficult. Even a simple request for an extra blanket took two days, and in the end I had to ask a Chinese friend to call and explain it for me. I’d arranged an Audi A6 airport shuttle on my first day and signed a contract confirming the time, airport, and terminal. The booking was made seven days ahead, but they changed the car at the last minute without telling me, then said there was no car available right then. After I raised it with the manager, they gave me the shuttle for free and refunded the charge. Still, the whole thing felt very unprofessional for a Hyatt property.

For what I paid, I expected much better. After I was moved to another room, it hadn’t been cleaned: the previous guests’ sheets were still on the bed and their towels were dirty. I also got bitten by something while staying there. The rooms smelled of smoke, and mold was growing in every bathroom and shower area. Service was okay, though the manager made a snide remark about me not speaking the local language as a foreigner.

You won’t have trouble finding something to eat here, even late at night, since the streets stay busy. The hotel is in the CBD, and the room was spacious and very clean. Breakfast also had a wide range of dishes.
