Kempinski Hotel Chongqing

The lobby is nicely designed, and so are the rooms, which have a classy feel. Breakfast has a wide selection. One request to parents with children: please keep the kids quiet and calm, especially at breakfast, so other guests can enjoy a peaceful stay.

The room was too warm, and the hallway felt cooler. It was November, with temperatures outside around 16-20°C as winter approached, but we had no choice except to run the heater on its hot setting. They gave me a movable plastic fan, but it was so dusty and dirty that I couldn’t use it with my baby there, since the dust would blow around. Getting the baby to sleep was already difficult in the heat. The carpet was dusty and the ceramic floor was sticky. I stayed two nights, then came back for one more after Zhangjiajie. That much cheaper Wyndham in Zhangjiajie was so much better. Disappointing.

The executive upgrade is worth it, and breakfast is huge. Best bed of my Southeast Asia trip, and I finally got a good night’s sleep. Awesome!

Gary from Concierge even had a gift ready for me before checkout, despite it being his day off. He also helped me book a restaurant, and that thoughtfulness really stayed with me. The Duty Manager brought over a Kempinski teddy bear, and after I checked in, the Front Office Manager called to see if everything was okay. That evening, I was surprised with a big, lovely birthday cake instead of the small one I expected. My first trip to Chongqing became one of my warmest birthdays. Thank you, Kempinski Chongqing, for making me feel so looked after.
