The hotel's central location was the one real plus, but there are better places nearby for the money. The room went uncleaned until after 5 PM one day, even though we came back hoping to rest. Breakfast was awful, both the dated dining room and the poor quality of the food. Nobody seemed able to speak English, which made communication difficult. For a place calling itself four-star and charging more than nearby four-star hotels, it felt closer to a basic hostel. It was old, dirty, badly maintained, and the carpets smelled strongly of tobacco. The whole atmosphere felt tacky. I've stayed in plenty of three-star hotels that were much better in every way.

We enjoyed our four nights at Mecure. The rooms were clean, breakfast had a good mix of Chinese and Western dishes, and the location was convenient and good value. There wasn't much Halal food, though. We're Malay Muslim couples from Singapore. We landed a little after 2 AM and got to the hotel close to 4 AM. The front desk staff didn't speak English, but LULU came over to help and gave us her WeChat number so we could communicate in English. She was very diligent and helpful, replying to my messages even on her day off.

The room was spacious, and getting around from this fantastic location was easy. Some interesting places were close enough to walk to. Front office service was good, too. Breakfast could be better, though. Xiao Tong deserves a special mention for being so attentive and helpful with our requests.

When my son's asthma suddenly started early one morning, Xiao Wu was the person I turned to. I messaged her urgently because no pharmacy was open and we didn't know if a blue Ventolin inhaler would be available. She called an ambulance, explained what was happening, and asked for the inhaler. Manager Yang Mei came to our room to check that everything was under control. The ambulance arrived with the inhaler within 10 minutes, and I was so relieved. Their help saved my son. Xiao Wu kept checking on us after that, asking if we needed more water, a small fruit platter, or anything else. She's wonderful, and her warmth and kindness made the service far beyond what I expected. The hotel is also in a really handy spot on Bayi Road, surrounded by local food, street snacks, and well-known restaurants. The subway is close for getting around. I'll definitely come back.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Man Man at the front desk checked us in and messaged each day to see if things were okay or if we needed water or fruit. English was limited. The cleaning staff were honest, too. I left a 10 yuan tip and she refused it, so I had to put the note in her pocket myself. At Mercure Chengdu, I had to do the same thing. The location is very good, near restaurants and five or six big food courts. Breakfast is free, mostly Chinese, but I found it adequate. The tiny laundry room was free and useful, with four washers, four dryers, a large area for air-drying clothes, and two drying closets. The hotel itself felt old and worn, and I could hardly believe the room was a Mercure. I booked a Deluxe thinking the photos showed the renovated rooms, but the carpets and walls were faded, stained, and tired. Room 1717 was in poor shape, with a small plastic wrapper on the carpet and air conditioning that flooded the floor and table. They quickly moved me to room 1917, which was a little better but still old and tired. I even called Accor Group to check that this hotel belonged to them. It doesn't feel like a four-star property to me, maybe two or three stars. It's in a building that seems to house three or four other lower-rated hotels on different floors. The old, slow lifts have no keycard security, so I could reach any floor. I suspect the building used to be a shopping center, with empty shop units and floors partly turned into smaller hotels. The reception is very small and shared with Rezen Select hotels, another hotel, and a travel agency. There's no toilet on the reception floor. The signs look worn, the carpets are faded and stained, and one Mercure sign was missing from the reception wall, leaving its outline. This may be the worst Mercure I've stayed in. It's not a bad hotel in a good location, and the staff are nice, but don't overpay. There are newer, better-value options nearby, and I wouldn't call this four-star.
