(This review is from 2012) House of Bethany, also spelled Bodami and a few other ways, was one of my favorite places to stay during a 400-day trip around Asia. It was a really relaxing stay and felt like being welcomed into a family home. The owners are notably Christian, though I can’t say whether that has anything to do with how friendly they are to guests. The young woman didn’t speak much English, but she made a real effort to communicate by typing into Google Translate, which was fun. The grandparents couldn’t speak or type, but they kept smiling. My room was spacious, tastefully furnished, and had a TV and wifi. Both the room and bathroom were exceptionally clean. You can rent a very cheap bicycle from the grandfather, which is a great way to explore the villages around Lake Erhai. The guesthouse sits at the edge of Dali’s old town, so everything is within walking distance. It was very cheap in May 2012. Highly recommended.
