I chose this hotel because I liked staying at the Lijiang Old Story. But on arrival I saw a duckling squeaking in a tiny, filthy cage. It looked desperate for food and water, so I gave it water from the bathroom and asked the hotel for food to feed it. That part was good, but I couldn't bear staying there and passing the cage, seeing it suffer. I returned the key card before seeing any rooms, so I can't comment on the hotel's quality otherwise. Animals feel pain and loneliness. The duck deserves a clean, bigger cage, and more contact with people if its mother isn't with it.

The location is handy, right by Dali Ancient City and all its bars, shops, and restaurants. The place is clean, the decor and design appealed to me, and the staff are friendly. The wifi was painfully slow, though. Also, the bathroom is open, so you can see everything happening in there if the curtain is left open, lol.

This courtyard is a classic example of Bai style, and you can see the care the owner has put into the details. Take a seat outside and listen to music, watch the fish swim, read, daydream, or browse online. It's an easy place to unwind. From the open-air garden on the third floor, there's Erhai Lake ahead and Cangshan Mountain behind, with the old city gate and Dali's famous Three Pagodas in view. The deep culture and unpretentious local customs can make you fall for this ancient capital of the Dali Kingdom. Come to Dali to refresh, rest, and gather strength for whatever comes next.
