Japanese business travelers may find this a good fit: breakfast includes Japanese food, and the TV has Japanese programs. The hotel is Japanese-owned and offers good value. For a family holiday, though, I’d choose a more upscale place.

It’s an older building, but the washlet, Japanese breakfast options, and broad selection of Japanese TV programs made it comfortable for me. The cleaning staff even greeted me in Japanese, so I had no problems inside. Then I stepped outdoors and was reminded that I wasn’t in Japan.

The hotel dates back more than 30 years and was opened as a joint venture between Daiwa House Industry and the organization then known as China Southern Airlines Group. There’s also a story about the hotel’s Chinese restaurant from its early days: a customer was served a dish they hadn’t ordered. When they mentioned the mistake, the waiter told them they’d been unlucky and would have to eat that instead.

For Japanese guests, this place is convenient. Staff speak Japanese, Japanese TV is available, and there are Japanese restaurants in the entertainment district and nearby. I think that makes it a good option for a longer stay.
