The hotel had lovely views over the harbour and sea, and the location was excellent. ‘East Montage’ is within walking distance. It isn’t an exact copy of Venice, though its developer used that classical European city as the blueprint. The airport is only about half an hour away. Inside, the hotel was immaculate, with a very decent-sized room and bathroom. The toilet had its own door within the bathroom, which also had a retractable screen to open it up to the bedroom or close it off. I liked having universal power sockets and USB charging points in the room. One thing to know: there’s no ATM at the hotel. We struggled to get foreign currency because the nearby banks didn’t work with our UK banks, so we had to drive to Bank of China to withdraw money. The hotel does exchange cash currencies, though.

Breakfast had a wide range of choices, including options for Europeans. The hotel is close to the sea and the promenade, and the service was good. The room was nicely equipped, though not very large. I’d put it at about 4.5 stars.

The gym was fantastic and open around the clock, and there are several malls about a 10-minute walk away. The room was great; breakfast was just okay. I had a good experience overall.

The view and breakfast were impressive, and I stayed in a pretty impressive suite. Still, the place felt dated and a bit sleazy. Even though it was supposed to be non-smoking, it smelled of smoke and had burns everywhere, with visible wear.

Hilton, Dalian does a great job on nearly everything: the location is great, the service is excellent, and the food is awesome. The internet was the one exception, though they may not have much control over it. When it worked, it was very bad, and it dropped often. The "Great Firewall of China" is a real obstacle for international business travelers.
