We stayed for four nights, and the apartment rooms are in a separate adjacent building, not the main Nikko hotel. It doesn’t come close to the hotel’s standard and feels more like a three-star Airbnb. We paid 900 RMB a night, which was ridiculous. The apartment smelled of cigarettes everywhere, from the hallway and elevator to the room. All the apartments are smoking rooms, and the windows are locked, so there’s no fresh air. I’d called ahead to ask for a non-smoking room, but the answer was vague and left me thinking I’d get one. We moved rooms on the third day, and it was a little better, though just sitting on the sofa still gave me a sore throat. Remember to pour water into the bathroom and kitchen drains, or they’ll smell awful when dry. The dishes and utensils had been washed but were still dirty. Around 2 a.m. on our last night, a little visitor walked past my head. I think it was a rat. My kids were with me, and I barely slept because I was afraid it or they might hurt them. I told the front desk when we checked out the next morning. They didn’t even seem surprised, lol. They said sorry and sent me on my way. If you have to stay here, avoid the apartments. At least choose the hotel, though even that isn’t worth your dime.

I looked at several hotels, and a lot of them seemed tacky or dim. This one had a convenient location, felt spacious, was clean, and had friendly staff. I ordered a late brunch for delivery, and it went to a locker. You have to go outside the lobby and to the right to get to it. Opening the locker was a bit tricky, haha.

We stayed in a sea-view suite on the 31st floor, with a small living room and a big bed. The room was roomy and looked out across the whole harbor. The view of Dalian harbor was beautiful and breathtaking. The room itself felt fresh and very clean, with a clean green 2+1+1 sofa set, a tea set on the coffee table, a desk and chair facing the harbor, and a bidet toilet, which is rare in mainland China. I did find the elevator lobby a little unpleasant when we first came in. I’d also seen a one-star review about a strong smoke smell, but luckily that review was about an apartment, not the hotel. For some reason, there don’t seem to be any Google reviews for the Nikko Hotel Dalian?

The interior looks nice. The elevators are very old and shaky, which feels a little scary. Two of the four are being repaired right now, but otherwise I had no problems.
