The room is spacious, with automated drapes, and the slippers feel high quality and luxurious. At check-in, the polite, well-trained reception staff offer a pillow selection and measure you to find a suitable type. There’s complimentary fruit, snacks, drinks and even a mini bottle of red wine in the room. The small thoughtful touches made my stay memorable. The hair sticker and toilet seat cover were especially considerate, things I haven’t even seen at five-star hotels. I’d say this feels like more than a three-star hotel, though breakfast was just okay, nothing special.

DeRUCCI is known in China for its mattresses and pillows, and they make that part of the stay personal by measuring your neck, shoulders and chest to tailor a pillow. That made for a new kind of hotel experience. The room was impressive for its size, decor, theme and facilities. There are two convenience stores within walking distance, plus restaurants, pubs and a public park nearby. Recommended.

The gym is the best I’ve come across at a hotel in China, and there’s an open rooftop deck connected to it where you can relax or hang out. Hotel DeRUCCI is beautiful, and my room was very clean. The bed and bedding were great, and I’ve been told they’re famous in China. Breakfast is a fairly typical Chinese hotel spread, with good choices for foreign travelers, though it isn’t the familiar comfort food you’d get back home.
