Dongguan Oriental Ginza International Hotel

The room was bright, clean, and roomy enough for two, so I felt comfortable as soon as I arrived. The pillows were a little too soft, though. I would have liked the option of two pillows to switch between. I've stayed here several times. It’s one of the more upscale places around Dalang Town, with rooms at about 300 RMB a night. Parking is available by the entrance and in the basement. There’s now a first-floor gym, which wasn’t here four years ago, though I don’t know when it was added. A barbecue grill at the back has special deals with the hotel. The restaurant is on the second floor and serves buffet breakfast, but the selection doesn’t change much, so a long stay could get repetitive. There’s a convenience store on the right and restaurants on both sides nearby. It covers the basic needs and is a good choice.

The rooms are clean, the hotel is newly opened, and parking is available. The price is reasonable, but I’d put the experience somewhere between three and four stars. The facilities and service don’t feel five-star. There’s only a small gym and no pool, and the in-room internet is weak while TV reception is poor. For groups, breakfast staffing seems insufficient. There also aren’t restaurants or night markets nearby, which is inconvenient for group bookings.

The decor is new and has a youthful feel, but I don’t think the hotel lives up to a five-star standard. There are no bathtubs in the rooms, the air conditioning can’t be relied on, and the public-area lights are often switched off. It feels like a fake five-star place.

There isn’t much to buy nearby, since the hotel sits in a residential area and feels quite remote. The Jusco shopping mall is a 25-minute walk away. Hotel facilities are limited, and the shower water kept changing temperature. I’d rate it around 2.5 stars, just short of three.
