If you're after a clean, affordable place to sleep, Grand Mercure Dongguan Humen is a good choice, with Accor service. It's a good four-star hotel, and the rooms aren't especially new or old, just in line with the stated standard. I didn't manage to eat breakfast. Four-star hotel breakfasts are generally difficult for me, and in China this one didn't work for me at all. Nearby, though, there are McDonald's, Lukin coffee, and tasty street food like chicken, squid, and sausages. Really good, and no bugs.

The staff are helpful and speak English, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. You can access Google services because the hotel has a Hong Kong IP address, but there are no international TV channels and no heating in the rooms. The food is very average. It's handy for catching the ferry to HK airport.

I spent two weeks here. The room was OK, nothing especially good. The hotel didn't offer anything, not even a fruit basket. I thought that was a very cheap attitude.

I came back to this hotel three months later. We had booked a double twin bed room, but actually got a single twin bed. The hotel suggested adding an extra bed without clearly saying there would be an extra charge. That was disappointing, and the extra bed didn't come with a pillow.
