Royal Garden Hotel

A big, nicely decorated hotel in a good location. The rooms are spacious, with a toilet and bath, and breakfast has a long list of good options. There’s also a swimming pool.

The staff were super nice and helpful, and the hotel has several onsite restaurants serving tasty food in different styles. The first-floor buffet was the best. There’s also an outdoor pool and an onsite gym. A very nice place to stay in Dongguan, China, with modern, clean rooms and a beautiful view.

I was there for five nights in October 2023. It seems to be a common hotel for Huawei company employees. My room was very good, large, spacious, and clean, and the bathroom was big and clean too. The food and drinks were great, especially breakfast, and the a-la-carte lunch was good as well. Shops and restaurants nearby are easy to reach on foot. English was an issue, but manageable.

I still remember being furious over what happened during my parents’ visit in 2009 or 2010. I had booked two rooms: a regular one with one bed for my uncle, and a room with two small beds for my parents because my mom insisted on it. Three regular rooms would have been too expensive. The next morning, Mom called to say she couldn’t get into the breakfast buffet. A woman there told her there was only one ticket per room, and no ticket meant no entry. With two beds, shouldn’t there have been two breakfast coupons? I went to the front desk and offered to pay for the extra buffet ticket and have it added to my bill at checkout. They had my passport copy and ID, but the young woman, who seemed new, said it wasn’t allowed. She was strict about the rules and came across as arrogant. She wouldn’t even speak to a supervisor, and refused to give my mom a ticket even if I paid. I was so upset that my mom had to wait for my dad and uncle to finish breakfast instead of eating with them. I wasn’t going anywhere, and I’d said I would cover the food. How could this have been a five-star hotel? I’m glad it’s gone down to three stars, though I think it should be one or two. The lobby is spacious, and the rooms are okay, with good views from the upper floors.
