Courtyard Shanghai Fengxian

Restaurants nearby make the location handy. My room was well used, and the electrical outlets by the desk seemed pretty dodgy. The air conditioning was locked off, so the room got quite warm. Opening the window didn’t really cool it down.

We’ve stayed at more than two dozen Courtyard hotels, and this is one of the more luxurious ones. We stayed in a deluxe guest room, a decent size, with a huge bathroom and separate tub and shower. The staff were among the most impressive I’ve encountered at a Courtyard. The front desk, housekeeping and breakfast buffet workers were all professional, courteous and very helpful. Breakfast was included in our package, or RMB60 if bought separately, with a generous selection of Chinese and Western dishes. I enjoyed a freshly made cappuccino each morning, and the made-to-order noodles and wontons were especially delicious. The hotel is in the old town of Nanqiao, where there’s plenty happening. Most places, including beautiful Guhua Park, are within walking distance. The nearest subway station is about a 10-15 minute drive away.

I’ve stayed here three times, and it’s definitely one of the better hotels in this outer Shanghai district. The service is good, and the breakfast is good for Westerners. For a better room, ask for the new extension, in rooms not ending in a number higher than 048. Rooms above that are in the older wing, which badly needs an upgrade. Very good value overall, though those older rooms need work.

The facilities and service were great. It’s a great hotel in town, with beautiful parks and an ancient city nearby to visit in the Fengxian area.
