Our room had a lovely view over Labrang Monastery, and we could watch the whole ceremony from the window on the festival's third day. The yak butter sculptures were displayed in the Great Sutra Hall square, while the ceremony was shown live on a giant screen at the monastery entrance. We spent five days at Overseas Tibetan Hotel during the 2024 Monlam Festival. The room was clean, comfortable, and cozy, with heating, and the staff were friendly and enthusiastic. The hotel owner, Mr. Losang, had agreed to hold a room for us after I contacted him, which was a big help since accommodation is hard to book during this major spring festival in Amdo. I had visited Labrang Monastery in Xiahe in 2019 and knew the hotel was well placed, about a five-minute walk from the monastery, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. I loved staying there and highly recommend Overseas Tibetan Hotel to anyone visiting Xiahe and Labrang Monastery.

We'd happily return for New Year celebrations. Breakfast was a lovely part of the stay, with good service, coffee and juice, and a very good meal. Try the Everest breakfast. Losang, the owner of the Overseas Tibetan Hotel, was the best host we've had at a Chinese hotel. He was warm and friendly, shared lots of local tips on shopping and food, and told us when to visit the monestery. His English is exceptional, he knows a lot about world events, and he was always happy to answer our questions.

Good value, though the reception wasn't very pleasant. One night we were left stuck outside because nobody had told us the place gets locked after 22:00.
