Guangzhou Hotel ( Lin Nan)

We chose this hotel because the rooms have kitchens and laundry machines, and booked two rooms next to each other to share the amenities. The rooms were comfortable for sleeping, reading, or working on a laptop, but there weren’t many modern utilities. The kitchen had a refrigerator, bottled water each day, a water jug, tea, coffee and a boiler. It didn’t come with bowls, utensils, pots, pans or plates, unlike a better Guangzhou hotel I stayed in two years ago. The induction stove’s vent in my room didn’t work, so we cooked in the room next door. The gym also costs 34 RMB per day for hotel guests, while other hotels make it free. The two thermostats in each room, four altogether, could cool but not warm the rooms. That was a big problem in winter, so we left them off. The air vents were visibly dusty. A guest across from us smoked and aired out his room by keeping the door open, despite smoking being prohibited in rooms. We raised these issues with housekeeping and management downstairs. They brought us a heater for each room, and said they knew about the smoker but couldn’t do anything. I assume he’ll be penalized once he finally leaves. Since I have asthma and am sensitive to smoke, staff lent me a tower air filter. It didn’t help, since it made the room cold and dustier. I used lots of boxes of tissues for my stuffy nose, and it usually cleared when I went outside or visited modern tourist areas like Beijing Road. My nose was stuffy much of the time, and I had to take a lot of my medicine for sneezing, sore throat, and other illness. I thought staff handled the cigarette addict’s problem unprofessionally. It wasn’t worth the money, and I’d think carefully before staying here.
