Super 8 Hotel Guangzhou Railway Station

The rooms were clean, and the hotel was convenient to reach, right by Exit A of Jiju railway station Metro, about a five-minute walk from the station. The bus to Canton fair is quick, around 40 minutes to the complex. Staff were kind and very cooperative, though they speak little English. If you’re Indian and want Indian food, there aren’t any restaurants nearby.

For a cheap stay, the location is the main advantage, and the rooms are mediocre. I was there for roughly six nights, and it was a disaster. Every morning at breakfast, I gave my room number and was told breakfast wasn’t included, even though I’d paid for it. I had to ask them to check again, and they still tried hard to get me to pay extra. The breakfast itself was another problem. During the international fair, including Canton fair, they only served bread and sunny-side-up eggs. Eating cold eggs on their own every morning was really difficult for me. There was no English or continental breakfast. I also found the staff’s English very limited. I’ve traveled in many countries and understand the importance of using the local language, but this is a hospitality business with mostly foreign guests, so having at least one fluent English speaker seems essential. Staff training matters too, especially for handling problems. And the repeated questions on my way back to my room made me uncomfortable. Each day they asked which floor and room I was on and what my name was. Once or twice would have been fine, but every day made me wonder if it was a personal issue related to my race. I confronted them, but they just backed away.

Clean and comfortable, in a good location, and the price is cheap. It was a good stay.

I stayed six nights and enjoyed the hospitality. The staff coordinated well and were very cooperative, even with the language barrier, and the atmosphere and service were superb. Getting around was easy because the hotel is close to the railway station. The one odd thing was the TV: there were no English programs or channels. After a tiring day, it would be nice for overseas guests to relax with a show or movie, and the lack of options made the room a bit boring. I’d stay here again and recommend it to people visiting Guangzhou. Thanks Baiyun City Hotel !
