The rooms smell like tobacco, and the hotel feels outdated. The restaurants shut at 9:00 PM, which was the worst part, since that leaves nowhere to eat in the complex.

We had to wear swimming caps at the clubhouse pool, and there was no birthday surprise, which left me a little disappointed. Still, my birthday stay at the five-star Xinghewan Peninsula Hotel turned into two nights because the facilities, surroundings, family-friendly approach, privacy, security, and service were so good. I had booked the VR experience room for one night, and everyone we dealt with was polite and helpful. Zheng Yuting, Lin Feifei, and Su Qiugen deserve a special thank you for patiently helping with a few small problems over those two days. The buffet dinner was good value, with lovely desserts that were well made, so I recommend trying it. A few things could work better: the internet was poor, dinner ended a bit early, and coordination between departments could be easier for families. It would help to be able to buy meal vouchers at check-in, and having just one room key made going out inconvenient. There are several shuttle buses a day to Chimelong Paradise, about a 20-minute ride, but you need to book ahead. Taxis were easy to get too. This Star River Peninsula Hotel gave us a first-class experience beyond what I expect from an ordinary five-star hotel. I have wonderful memories and will come again. ^^
