The zoo and amusement parks are fun, and the circus is cool. For a first visit, I can see why people would enjoy it. But it’s a hectic place to stay, with crowds and queues everywhere, kids running around, and nowhere quiet. Our room had a noticeable smoke smell, too. I remember Chimelong from before the expansion, when the hotel felt elegant from the lobby through the rooms. Now it feels chaotic. Maybe I’m judging it against what it used to be, but the prices and management seem to have gone crazy. It’s still a nice hotel, and I hope first timers find it worthwhile.

The hotel has a huge range of facilities, and breakfast had an incredible variety of items. The lobby is grand, and the architecture is impressive. There’s also a private area for bird watching and a flamingo zoo.

I’d rate the hotel higher if they hadn’t recently bought dolphins to keep in a tiny pool. What’s the point, just for our entertainment and selfishness? They’re going to be sad and miserable. I thought being stuck indoors during lockdown might have taught us some compassion, but apparently we still have a lot to learn. Set them free!

Everything’s gathered in one big compound, with all the facilities there. The International Circus deserves a special mention, it’s definitely a must-see spectacle.

The food is wonderful, but the beds are basically boards with sheets. I used the duvet to sleep on top of.
