Heng Tong Hotel

On 27th August, we stayed here after missing our international flight, and the receptionist gave us excellent customer service. Everything else was great too, especially the chef and his team, and people treated us well. The exception was the female receptionist the next morning. We were a group of 12 and had been told everyone's meals would be free. When we raised that with her, she got angry, threw the coupons down in front of me, and treated us disrespectfully.

Bait and switch. We booked and confirmed this hotel in advance for a family trip to the canton fair. When we arrived, they said our room wasn't available because they'd overbooked, and moved us to their 'other hotel', much farther away. Everything else was booked, so we had no choice. They'd already charged our card, then marked the booking.com reservation as canceled. I believe they did that to stop me from leaving a review. The change made traveling with little kids ten times harder, cost us significantly more, and made our business trip extremely difficult.

I had 24 hours in Guangzhou between flights to Amsterdam, and wasn't sure what to expect from the free hotel stay. The room, service, and restaurant were all fine. Everything was clean, well presented, and met my needs for that day. The hotel is surrounded by other buildings and hotels, and I didn't have much time to explore. There is a bus into the local area, but it only runs every few hours. They also offer a return bus to the airport, so ask about it and make a note of the departure time. At the airport entrance/exit, there's a counter where they can help you find the free hotel offer. No need to get anxious trying to find the right counter, it's worth using.

There are plenty of places nearby to eat, get a haircut, or have a massage, and it was easy to book a Didi to get around. The room felt new and was clean, with the Projector TV as a standout feature. We got complimentary light snacks at the cafe when we checked in, and breakfast was nice. There's also a laundry room you can use for free. We had a pleasant stay.
