Junluxe Hotel Guangzhou Science City

I found this to be a very good value for a work trip. The lobby is modern and spotless, and the reception staff speak English and are always helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with USB sockets and a multi-lead that worked for all my devices. The sockets also accept different plug types. The air conditioning worked so well I had to turn it off. Breakfast had a good balance of Asian and European options. There’s a small wooded area nearby that’s pleasant for a walk, though remember the season because there can be plenty of mosquitoes. The location is mainly suited to business, with few local restaurants around. From the back you can see the wooded area, while the front faces another building.

The room was spacious, and the hotel was fairly clean with decent service. It was quiet too, except last weekend, when an exhibition was on. The hotel was affiliated with it and ran a shuttle, so it got crowded. Breakfast was average, with limited choices. There are lots of great restaurants around Guangzhou, and a big Wanda mall about a 30-minute walk away, so I doubt many guests eat lunch or dinner at the hotel. There’s major construction across the street, and to our surprise, and disappointment, the rooms came with ear plugs. Work ran from 7am until 10-11pm, and it was very noisy. Don’t expect to get work or a conference call done in the hotel, and expect to be woken up at 7am. It’s a Holiday Inn Express, so keep your expectations modest and it may feel alright.

This feels like a more upscale Holiday Inn in China, and it kind of reminded me of the Golden Mile in HK. It was clean and safe, with high speed internet, 24 hour room service, and a wonderful breakfast. They put real effort into making breakfast tasty, varied, and nice to look at, with pleasant music too. My only issue was having a sport coat dry cleaned. The first attempt wasn’t done well, so I sent it back, but they fixed it. Thanks IHG.

Everyone at the hotel, gym, and restaurants was friendly, and the service was great. The room had a bit of a cigarette smell on our first day, but it went away.
