Kyriad Marvelous Hotel Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

The room was great for an overnight stop, with a warm shower and the rest we badly needed. There’s a metro station nearby, at most a 15-minute walk, and we got airport transfers both ways. We received the hotel for free during a 20-hour layover. The staff didn’t speak English, but it was easy to communicate using a translator. One odd moment was a housekeeper knocking unexpectedly and waking us to bring a pillow. There’d been a room mix-up, and we hadn’t asked for it. I’d stay here again on another layover in Guangzhou.

They got me checked in less than five minutes after I showed my passport, and there’s an airport shuttle. The room was great and clean, and the bed was comfortable. I’d give it 4.5 stars if I could. My small complaints may not bother everyone: the receptionist spoke basic English, which was acceptable, just not fluent or five-star perfect. The shower area is small and there’s no bathtub. Those are all the issues I had, and they’re minor.

The room itself is modern and quite nice, but the aircon has a really loud bass rumble, and management let the hotel down. For a solo Z class China Southern passenger, though, it’s a bad setup. They say they can assign any random person to share your room, even after midnight, and that person could just come in while you’re asleep. The shower blind is slightly transparent, with its control on the outside, so a new roommate could see you washing or using the toilet, whether intentionally or by accident. They really didn’t think this through. Stay at Metropolo instead. Last trip I got my own queen bed room there. Here’s hoping I wake up alone. A roommate arriving at 1am or later probably won’t be much of a surprise, since they’ll likely turn on the light to get in. Ridiculous.

It’s clean and a good place to stay. Breakfast was good 😋😋😋. Baiyun Airport is about a 20-minute drive away. I’ll come back when I travel to Guangzhou again.
