There are lots of food stalls nearby, many open until midnight, and next door there's a tasty, inexpensive stall serving noodles and porridge. The hotel itself is close to the city and turned out to be much more convenient than the building's first impression suggested, since it shares the building with offices. Our room had been newly renovated and was clean and spacious, and the bathroom was large and clean too. They also offer free bottled drinks in the lobby.
Our family suite had a queen or king size bed, a single bed, and basic toiletries like shampoo, body foam, and hair conditioner. The location is good for nearby eateries and shops, but the soundproofing was among the worst I've experienced. We could hear the TV in the next room very clearly.
The location is close to the pedestrian street, but that's about the only good thing. The room pictures looked at least ten years old or heavily edited, and didn't match what we found in this mixed-use building with several businesses. We had booked a “luxury room with window (king bed),” but at check-in the hotel said our reservation was for a “boutique room without window” and asked for extra money to get the room we had booked. After paying, we took a shared elevator and walked down a hallway with an old carpet that smelled strongly of smoke and nearly set off my allergies. The room they called an upgrade smelled damp and smoky, and its facilities were old and stuffy. We didn't want to stay, but were rushing to meet friends for dinner, so we left our luggage and went out. When we came back after dinner to check out, the front desk tried to charge a cleaning fee. We hadn't used anything, not even the bed, so they dropped it. One young man at the front desk had an excellent service attitude, and that earns them an extra star. The other staff weren't helpful. When I asked about a package, they simply opened the package room and searched, with no accountability if anything went missing. We checked out right away and moved to another hotel. Thanks to Agoda's customer service for trying to get compensation, though the hotel refused a refund of about TWD 3,550 for two nights. For a trip to Guangzhou, I'd recommend choosing a Huazhu Group hotel to avoid this kind of unpleasant experience. Run away! For this price, pretty much any Huazhu Group hotel would be several times better. The musty, damp, and smoke smells were strong, the facilities old, and the elevator was shared with all kinds of businesses. The quality was poor. If you're traveling for leisure, don't stay here. If it's a work trip and you're not paying yourself, I guess that's different.
The building is old, but our room was spacious, very clean, and had all the amenities. We were upgraded to this room type, which impressed me enough to give the hotel five stars. It had a huge, very comfortable main bed, touch-controlled lighting, and a layout with two rooms connected by a door. The towels smelled fresh and clean, which matters a lot to me. The location is excellent, just 500 meters from Nanjing Road. I walked to the night market and back each day during my stay in Guangzhou. At the bottom of the building there's a convenience store and a couple of small restaurants, including a noodle shop and a place selling crispy pork and BBQ pork rice. The staff spoke little English but were helpful and kept trying. On my last day I couldn't connect to the WiFi because I kept entering the wrong password, and a staff member came up to my room to help. I had a great experience and would definitely recommend this hotel.
The room was a standard room, and at noon it was a smoking room, though the corridor had a strong smoke smell. The hotel WiFi was weak, so bring your own data.
