Swissôtel Guangzhou Hotel

I liked staying here much more than at the Sofitel, which costs about four times as much. The luxury feels quiet instead of showy, which suits me better. The staff welcomed me warmly and were professional throughout. Breakfast can get really loud when there’s a group or lots of families, because of the room’s design. I also found the round bathtub dated and inefficient. It’s about a 40-minute taxi ride to the main parts of the city, whether the CBD or old city. For the price, that works for me, though it could be a hassle for others. If it’s your first trip to Guangzhou, you might not get much sense of the city from here. It’s a great option for business travel or for someone who knows the city and wants some space.

Ms. Chloe took such good care of us, sorting out our little concerns with real attentiveness and care. She made a big difference to our stay, and I’d especially recommend her. The whole team made us feel welcome, and check-in was easy. Our room was cozy and a great place to relax after a long day. The food was a highlight, delicious and beautifully presented at every meal. The hotel was spotless, with a chic, calming atmosphere. We had an unforgettable time and would definitely stay at Swissotel Guangzhou again.

My room was big, and I was given an upgrade. Still, after staying at a few Swissotels, I don’t think this one is quite there yet. It’s more than a half-hour cab ride from the main tourist areas. Also, even though I booked through Accor, my booking wasn’t confirmed. When I asked whether a room was available, I was told to book through the trip.com app instead of having the hotel arrange one at the counter.

I wouldn’t recommend the breakfast. I ate at 7:30 in the morning, and everything was cold except the congee. I saw a tray of stir-fried broccoli and pork come out and thought at least that might be hot, but it was cold too, like the food that was supposed to be served hot. I can’t fathom how old the food was.
