Vienna Hotel Guangzhou Beijing Road Branch

The property is garbage. Rooms stink, some have no windows, and there are ashtrays in the hallways. Toilets clog at the slightest thing, the shower fixtures are poor, and showers in several different rooms don’t drain. Don’t stay here unless you have no regard for your own comfort. Even if it’s free, I wouldn’t stay. The location is great if you like heavy tourist traffic. The subway is within walking distance, though still two blocks away, and there are better parts of the city. Brutal. Zero stars.

Getting to the hotel from a vehicle is inconvenient. Cars can’t stop out front, so guests with luggage have to walk about 60-70 meters to and from the lobby. The entrance is down a small, dark alley near a rubbish dump. There’s just one lift, and the walkway to reception is so narrow that only one person with luggage can fit. The lift is shared with other businesses in the building, and the lobby security and control felt weak. Food deliveries and online purchases were left loosely in reception; we saw milk bottles sitting there overnight, unclaimed. There’s no concierge service, so luggage is left in the lobby without much control. Our group accidentally took two bags that weren’t ours because they were placed with our luggage. We later noticed and returned them. The bedsheets also weren’t changed daily. Soundproofing is mediocre. You can hear a quiet cough or footsteps in the corridor, and of course people chatting as they walk to or from their rooms.

The room was clean but stinky, apparently from the toilet drain. It was meant to be non-smoking, but someone had clearly smoked in it. Staff weren’t friendly and didn’t want to explain things when I asked. The hotel looks pretty run down, despite the pictures. For a three-star place, it isn’t cheap, so I wouldn’t book here.

The room was dirty and smelled like smoke, and there was mold in the bathroom. The elevator was either full or not working, and it’s shared with other businesses in the building.
