I had a confirmed Booking.com reservation, but the hotel refused to check me in because of my nationality and demanded “police permission.” Handling that is the hotel's responsibility. The experience was discriminatory and misleading, and I wouldn't recommend it.

I gave it five stars for the very economical price and location, the cheapest option in Guangzhou. It's only a five-minute walk from Xicun Metro Station and very close to one of Guangzhou's main clothing stores.
