The island is lovely and quiet, good for a relaxed walk away from the city bustle. Yizhi Hotel has a calm atmosphere, and the rooms are clean, comfortable and well maintained. The old-world feel fits Shamian Island, and the staff are polite and helpful. Finding the entrance can be confusing at first, especially for a first-time visitor, because the name on the building is spelled a little differently. Breakfast could be better too: there are very few vegetarian choices, not much variety for non-vegetarians, and most of those dishes are pork-based, which may not suit everyone. The amenities are basic rather than luxurious, but there’s what you need for a comfortable stay. Yizhi Hotel is a good choice for its location, cleanliness and peaceful setting. Clearer signs and more varied breakfast options would improve the experience.

The metro is a short distance away, though Didi is affordable when travelling in a group. There are plenty of eateries nearby, depending on what you like, and a mall across the road that you can reach through the underpass. The location wasn’t as great as I expected, though, depending on what you need. We’d seen lots of good reviews on Agoda and Trip.com, but the stay didn’t meet my expectations. The beds were comfortable and the room was a good size. One room had a musty toilet smell, but they changed it right away when we asked. If you’re a light sleeper, bring earplugs. Doors were constantly slamming, and we could hear people talking. The service was good, but be warned, housekeeping still went into the room even with the DO NOT DISTURB sign on. LOL! They need training on what that sign is for.

The free laundry room came in really handy, and we had an excellent room in a great location. We initially had a bit of trouble finding the hotel because the Latin-script name is Echic Hotel, while the Chinese characters translate to Yizhi hotel.

Hello, The hotel seemed alright at first glance, but when I arrived it was practically dilapidated and smelled strongly of dead fish. It’s 20 minutes from the city center. I asked to cancel after seeing the condition, but the hotel refused and kept charging me. There was absolutely no professionalism. I strongly advise against staying here!

The price was reasonable, and the room was quite nice, clean and hygienic. Front desk service was excellent, and the cleaning staff were efficient. The buffet was okay, though more food choices would make it better. There isn’t much to do nearby, but the hotel is close to bus and subway stations. It also has a laundry room and a gym.
