Ramada by Wyndham Guilin Yangshuo Resort

The stay was disappointing from the start. We arrived at 2pm hoping for early check-in, but the hotel had no electricity. That can happen, but staff couldn’t say when it might return or whether we should rebook. We left our luggage and went sightseeing, expecting things to be sorted by evening. At around 6pm the hotel was still completely dark. We waited in a cold lobby and kept hearing that power would be back soon. It took another hour for electricity to be properly restored. They offered us an “upgrade” as compensation, though it wasn’t clear what had been upgraded. We got a fairly small, two-floor family room with a nice design and a particularly nice balcony view. It wasn’t practical, though. The heating barely reached the lower floor, while the upper floor became unbearably hot. One level felt like a sauna, the other like a refrigerator, with no comfortable temperature in the room. The shower water wasn’t properly hot and the pressure was weak, so after being outside in the cold February weather, it was impossible to warm up. Breakfast on the first day was very poor, and the hotel seemed almost empty. When we raised these problems, staff looked confused and couldn’t properly understand or address them. Things improved over the weekend, when a large group held a seminar at the hotel and breakfast was served as it should be, with at least some choices. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There are many better options at lower prices, and I can’t see a real advantage to this hotel. Management needs to improve service, check rooms regularly, make sure the heating and hot water work, and provide a basic breakfast even in low season. If the hotel claims four-star status under the wyndham brand, its facilities and service should live up to that.
