Waking up to the Yangshuo scenery was a highlight, and the huge tub let me enjoy the same view while having a bath. The hotel isn’t in the centre, but that suited us. We walked to West Street in about 45 minutes, though you can get a Didi (taxi) or rent bikes and scooters from the property. It’s a lovely spot for taking in the landscape. The staff were great. WeChat made it easier to communicate, and they arranged tickets and a drop-off for the Impression Sanjie Liu show, which was absolutely worth seeing. The pool was decent, the fifth-floor cafe was lovely, and we liked the restaurant and our room. One person in our group also got an upgrade to a larger room. Some areas could use a refresh, but we all had a great stay and loved the property and its surroundings. There’s also Coffee, a funny, completely harmless dog who likes to growl and ride the elevator.

We barely needed to leave the hotel during our stay, apart from going to the Impressions show. The hotel and nearby places covered most of what we needed, and the staff helped with laundry, which was useful since laundries seem hard to find in mainland China. The pool was out of service for most of our visit, though we wouldn’t have used it anyway. We wanted a quiet break, so being about a five-minute drive from central Yangshuo suited us. There are several restaurants close by, including one built into a cave. Our mountain-view king room was spacious, clean and modern, with floor-to-ceiling windows, a big bathtub, adjustable AC and a projector TV. The view was lovely, too. Service felt personal, and the staff were friendly, quick to answer on WeChat, and very accommodating. They sorted out construction noise soon after we checked in, which we appreciated. The Western-style restaurant served good comfort food, a welcome change after several weeks of travelling in China. The treehouse cafe on the fifth floor was another highlight, with great coffee and stunning views. Our room was expensive compared with other places we’d stayed in China, though we had booked the priciest room type and felt we got what we paid for. I’d recommend it if you’re visiting Yangshuo and want somewhere to rest and recharge.

The rooms smelled mouldy, and the photos used in the listing didn’t match what we found on arrival. It wasn’t worth the price. The service felt pushy, with messages urging us to join a chat with reception staff, followed by trip sales and a flood of chat messages. I’d avoid it.
