Our room was clean and well furnished, and the balcony looked out onto the street. It got loud at night, but the earplugs provided helped a lot. The check-in staff didn’t speak English and weren’t very helpful, though. The restaurant was the biggest letdown: four menus made ordering a chore, and some items were misleading. One picture showed five pretzels, but we got one on a plate. Portions were small and expensive. It wasn’t terrible, but Yangshuo has much better value. With such a popular corner location, I expect the hotel will keep being mediocre.

The staff were polite, all smiles, and gave us lots of tourist information that helped us plan our itinerary. West Street is right there, so eating and shopping were easy. Our wood-focused room felt warm and comfortable. At night, sitting on the balcony to watch people pass by and hear music from the bars was a real pleasure. With the doors and windows shut, we could barely hear the street.

I keep coming back to the Rosewood Hotel, mostly because the location is so convenient: West Street is just downstairs for easy shopping and meals. The rooms are lovely, with natural wood decor that gives them a refreshing, classic Chinese feel. The amenities are comprehensive and modern. They also leave complimentary Dove chocolates and fresh fruit in the room each stay. Really good value for money.

I stayed next door, so I can’t speak to the rooms here, though I’ve heard the environment is nice. There’s no portal nearby, so I’m giving it 4 stars. #ingress
