Yu Yong Guesthouse (Longsheng Longji Rice Terraces)

The rice terraces were beautiful, and since we visited outside the Chinese school holidays, there were hardly any tourists and we almost had them to ourselves. We stayed two nights at the Wisdom Inn in May 2018 during a China tour, and that was enough for the region and the hotel. Sandy, the owner, welcomed us warmly and was always there to answer questions or share information. She cooked all our meals at the hotel, and they were delicious. She also made sure they worked for our vegan diet. Sandy seemed to be the only person in the village who spoke English very well; otherwise, people there, as elsewhere in China, wouldn’t understand you. Dazhai and the surrounding area are full of hotels mainly serving Chinese tourists, while the Wisdom Inn hosts only foreigners. The rooms feel authentic to local standards and are simply furnished, but have what you need for a night. The region is very humid, and the hotel is too. The sheets felt damp, and clothes and towels wouldn’t dry, sometimes getting even wetter overnight. That’s something to bear in mind here. All in all, we had a lovely, authentic stay.
