The room smelled strongly of mold, the bathroom walls were peeling, and the door wouldn’t lock. On top of that, the staff, especially the young owner, were incredibly rude and offensive in person and over text. He doesn’t speak any English. The owner was also dishonest and demanded payment through WeChat the day before we arrived, even though our Booking.com reservation said to pay on site. He said he’d cancel it otherwise. Apparently only Chinese people can use that option. Staff at our previous hotel fortunately helped by paying in advance. We’d asked to reserve a tour three months earlier, and it was confirmed repeatedly right up to the day. Then, at 11:00 or 11:30 PM the night before, they told us we’d have to make do with public buses the next morning. We missed out on seeing the Zhijin Caves because of them. We stayed just one night at this hostel, and it was a truly terrible experience. I strongly advise against it.
