Hilton Haikou Meilan

The suite we got was worn and dated, and full of mosquitoes. Diamond members weren't recognized, so you have to ask to receive your status treatment. The beds are queen size at most, and the shower won't get fully cold. Overall, it feels like the place has been neglected for quite a while. It's about 25 minutes from the airport, so it's not close at all.

The landscaping is great, and the room feels about right for Hilton. But if you come expecting the usual Hilton experience, this stay will leave you disappointed. The resort feels very classic inside, and though it's large, the outdoor activities for kids seem to be gone or not working. There are two pools, and one was being cleaned, which I understand. The lobby was really hot. I was sweating by the time I got there, then had to wait in a long queue for group check-in. It felt like a mice area for events, packed with groups and locals, and was super noisy and annoying. Breakfast leaned heavily toward local options. I couldn't get the Western breakfast I expected, with good toast, butter, and egg choices. It didn't feel like the Hilton I had in mind. Glad we stayed only two nights.

This hotel was in poor condition and didn't feel ready to operate, and definitely didn't feel like a Hilton hotel. The place is old and worn, and not in good shape for guests. We asked to move rooms, but the other room wasn't much different. It was definitely not Hilton standard. Around 5pm we were getting ready to go to the beach. At least the hotel is beachfront, but all the outdoor activities were closed for renovations, and beach access was closed too. The typhoon had happened a month earlier, but the hotel hadn't told us, so we wasted our time here. At check-in, reception said booking a buffet dinner would get us a room upgrade. We could understand some Chinese, though, and heard that they'd already assigned me room 1052 before making that offer. After we accepted the deal, we still got the same room. I'll definitely never come back. It was a total waste of my precious time and experience.

The beach didn't look very nice, and there were lots of noisy kids at breakfast. The hotel is quite far from Meilan international airport. They also don't turn on the air conditioning in the corridors or lift area. Not a very good stay.
