The best part of the hotel is its location. It’s barely 500 meters from one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. The food was delicious and cheap, it’s halal, and everything I tried was worth it 1000%. It’s also not too far from the train station, so a taxi there doesn’t cost much. My room had a floor-to-ceiling window looking straight into the bathroom from the bed area, with only a curtain for cover. The bathroom door didn’t lock properly, either, and there was a decent view into the nearby office building. I also didn’t like that the room floor wasn’t carpeted while the hallway was. The restaurant is owned by a young man and, I assume, his mom.

The room was clean and the location convenient. It’s the kind of place that works for a shower and sleep, and it connects to JW Marriott, so I assume the management is the same. It’s RMB 300 a night cheaper, so I won’t complain. As a Titanium Elite member I didn’t get a suite upgrade, just a room on a higher floor. Breakfast was included. The noodle counter lady was odd about not letting me take food photos, but I ignored her. On the last day they sent us to JW Marriott for breakfast, and the food there was noticeably fresher. Even the coriander looked greener, while the other side looked “dead”.

The amount billed after the service charge was deducted was higher than the price shown in the Marriott apps. This hasn’t happened to me at other Marriott hotels. Not recommended!

The location worked well for us, with West Lake close enough to reach on foot, plenty of shops and restaurants nearby, and decent transit. The cleaning staff were the best I've encountered at a hotel, and the room was spotless. Still, several things made the stay disappointing. The rooms felt cramped and dated, partly because the lighting was poor. The public spaces looked better, though there aren't many unless you have at least platinum status. Courtyard guests also seem to get a second-class welcome: the entrance is tucked beside the JW Marriott's and feels like a side door to the higher-end hotel. You get that impression again each time you come and go. Our windows faced rooms in the adjoining JW Marriott, so privacy could be an issue if you didn't keep the blinds shut. There was no window film to stop lights from showing through during the day. I don't think I'll stay here again.

The pool and fitness room were great, and the fact that they're shared with JW Marriott gave us good facilities to use. West Lake is walkable, with plenty of places to shop and eat nearby. Our room was quiet, clean, and spacious, and the hotel kept up Marriott's usual quality. One downside for gold elite members, breakfast wasn't complimentary.
