I picked The Yi Hotel after reading lots of reviews because its design looked like a good fit, and I booked well ahead. When traffic delayed me, I called to say I’d arrive after my reservation time. The staff were friendly and said they could hold the booking longer as long as they could reach me by phone. The entrance is somewhat tucked away, though easy enough to find once you know where it is, and first-time visitors could miss it. Security guards guide private cars down to the underground parking area... It really felt like a gem among the places I’ve stayed.

You’re right by West Lake, with Hangzhou’s well-known restaurants close at hand, so meals are easy to sort out. The area is lively and packed with luxury boutiques, international chains, and some of the city’s fanciest malls. The ten West Lake scenic spots are also easy to get to.
10/10
The food is pretty good, and the place is clean. It’s also very close to where I work.

It didn’t really strike me as a good place.
