Housekeeping quickly showed us what all the light switches did, which cleared up the only confusing part of the room. I stayed in one of the spacious, well-furnished three-storey villas, and the bed was comfortable too. The boutique hotel has a lovely design that feels like stepping back in time. Staff were caring and attentive, and adjusted things for my family when they weren't feeling well.

The rooms are huge, though anyone who can't manage stairs should avoid staying here. I also liked the design and location, but the touristy area gets crowded and annoying, and there was a lot of construction nearby. Those were the two positives for me. The facilities and infrastructure need an upgrade. The furniture looked old and dirty, the Wi-Fi was very unstable, and the gym is tiny. Breakfast choices were limited, mostly sweets and pastries. The chef and waitress didn't know what an egg white omelette was, and when they tried to help, they got it wrong. It was a disappointing stay and not worth the money.

We loved the historic architecture and the French touch at this very homey boutique hotel by the West Lake riverside. It's an ideal place to stay if that's what you're looking for, and we had a great visit in HANGZHOU thanks to the good service and convenient location. The hotel also offered valet parking at no extra charge while we were driving. West Lake is a three-minute walk away, and LongJin tea plantation is a 15-minute drive. We loved everything around here and would like to visit another Relais & Chateau chapel in HANGZHOU next time.
