Zhijiang Hotel

A very nice hotel with a great view in central Hangzhou. Getting to places around Zhijiang province is easy, and the hospitality was great.

For the price and location, it was acceptable. The room was large, decent, and fairly clean, while the buffet was just average.

The front desk staff's attitude and lack of flexibility are why I wouldn't give this place five stars. Otherwise, it suited us well: the rooms were spacious and clean, the linens were tidy, and friendly staff replaced used towels and topped up the mineral water, tea bags, and coffee. It's a three-star hotel without recreational facilities, but it does have smoking facilities and parking. There are restaurants nearby, and the adjacent conference center has many meeting rooms. Lots of organizations were meeting there, so it was lively. It seems geared toward conferences, and our conference organizers booked us in for three nights. West Lake is about 8 kilometers away, and it was still crowded during the holidays. Songcheng is a little farther out. We left a tip under the pillow, and housekeeping moved it to the bedside table after cleaning. One day when we went out, a staff member declined the tip. Maybe it was because we were individual guests rather than part of a tour group, or maybe tipping just isn't common there.

My parents stayed there several times and had a great experience. The staff were friendly and really dedicated.
