Harbin Fortune Days Hotel

Getting around was fine by taxi, but the hotel itself was disappointing. The building is old but fine, while the facilities are terrible: the drainage is poor, the hot water only lukewarm or cold, lights keep going out, the heating doesn't work well, and there aren't enough outlets. The staff's English is poor, and they don't speak Japanese. I also had to cancel without notice on the morning of my stay because of an unexpected reservation issue. This is nowhere near a five-star hotel. It feels like a two-star place.

We met a friend in the lobby bar, whose decor of old Harbin items gave it a nice atmosphere, and had dinner at the hotel's Chinese restaurant. It was my first time staying here, in a standard room. The service felt warm and welcoming, and the room was very clean. The facilities were a bit dated, though still clean and tidy overall.

It's a five-star hotel in Harbin, but the location isn't convenient. It's in an area with banks and other businesses, far from the main shopping district, and there are no shops nearby. The restaurant looks luxurious, but it's expensive and the food isn't especially good. There's also a karaoke bar with a row of attractive women, which made me think it might be used for entertaining clients.

The breakfast was mediocre, and the chef was unfriendly. The front desk service was slow, and we had no hot water for a shower until the issue was finally fixed at 11 a.m. The room and hallway were very dirty.
