Eaton HK

The neighborhood was great for walking and exploring, with lots of things close by. We had a great stay at Eaton. Our room had attractive decor and plenty of storage, and the service was excellent. It was always made up when we got back, which we appreciated in such a large hotel. Breakfast was delicious, especially on the weekend, and I’d recommend it.

Temple Street Night Market is right beside the hotel, and there are lots of nearby bus stops. Buses are a nice way to get around, though Nathan Street and Gascoigne Road can get congested. Jordan MTR is about 400 m away, and the Tsuen Wan Line reaches many attractions. West Kowloon is very convenient for trips to the Mainland or airport. My room on the 15th floor had a fantastic YMT view. The rooms are tiny and compact, as you’d expect in Yau Tsim Mong, but have what you need. Reception staff were super helpful and friendly, speaking English, Cantonese, and Mandarin fluently. Breakfast staff were just as attentive. Breakfast was among the best I’ve had in Hong Kong, with lovely coffee and great Chinese, Western, and HK choices. I paid 121 HKD per person, which seems fair for a hotel here. There are good restaurants nearby too, so you don’t have to eat at the hotel. Australian Dairy Company is famous and its breakfast set menu is only 48 HKD, though it’s not close, so I’d suggest the hotel breakfast. The gym is nice but doesn’t have many facilities, and I’ve seen better ones in four-star Hong Kong hotels. The pool is clean and warm, but much too small. Still, I’d recommend the hotel as a base for your visit.

The hotel itself was very nice, though the shower had little to no pressure. My experience with guest services, however, was poor enough that I wouldn’t recommend contacting them. I asked for an iron in the evening to use the next morning. It had melted nylon on it, which stained my pants. When I called to explain and ask urgently for another, they said they’d rush one up. The staff member laughed when I said my pants were ruined and hoped they’d clean or replace them. After 20 minutes, nobody had arrived, so I called to cancel because I had to leave. They asked me to wait and said someone would bring it right away. I waited another 10 minutes, but no one came. I left late with wrinkled, stained pants. A cleaning lady arrived with an iron just as I was leaving, too late to use it. That evening, I found a note from assistant manager Clinton, who was kind and helpful about fixing things. He took the pants to remove the stain and gave me complimentary breakfast, which was nice. Later, I called guest services to ask about taking home a glass water jug, as its label suggested. The staff member was rude. He first said, “Those aren’t for taking home,” then, when I pointed to the label asking guests to contact guest services, replied, “Ugh, OK they’re $90.” I was tired of the poor service and ended the call.

The hotel is well maintained, and there’s a huge, delicious food hall open to the public. The location is great too, about a five-minute walk to the night market, with plenty of restaurants and shops around. What really made the stay was the staff. They were cheerful and incredibly helpful during my husband’s sudden medical emergency. Every manager and employee made a difficult time easier, with kind words and little treats to lift my spirits. I’m very grateful and highly recommend the place. Other guests said their rooms were great, but ours was cramped, with no storage or privacy. It felt more like an open studio.
