Grand Bay View Hotel

We were a large family group of 11 in three rooms, and the service was consistent throughout. The rooms were thoroughly cleaned and fresh towels were brought every day. The staff clearly did their best to make us comfortable. Our stay at the Grand Bay View Hotel was fantastic from beginning to end. Special thanks to the reception team, especially Simpson and Tommy, the middle-aged man in the light blue jacket, for helping our logistics run smoothly. We’d definitely stay again.

The staff were very helpful and enthusiastic about sharing information. I especially appreciated Yannis at the front office, who patiently explained attractions and how to get around. I stayed five nights with my daughter. There was a small room incident, but the staff offered to move us right away, and my family enjoyed the trip very much. The hotel isn’t particularly close to the train station, but the location is still not bad, and there’s a shuttle bus to the Tsuen Wan area on a fixed schedule. It’s a good choice for a stay.

The room was clean apart from carpet stains, had no bad smell and came with a nice view. Still, the interior was very dated, probably older than I am, and reminded me of student dormitories back in Eastern Europe, where I’m from. Things were falling apart, and part of the shower came down on me while I was using it. No water is provided, so you have to buy it, and the towels are just little pieces of cloth. That’s why I gave it three stars. It feels like a spartan student dorm pretending to be a hotel, though it’s not nearly as bad as many reviews make it sound.

The views from the hotel are fantastic, and that’s one of its few redeeming qualities. The restaurant is super expensive, just so you know. I had a loud, stressful stay and wouldn’t come back. The room wasn’t comfortable. It smelled nasty and sewer-like, the bathroom looked old and a bit dirty, and the bed was two twin mattresses pushed together that felt too springy. The pillows were high and firm, leaving my neck and upper back sore. Hallway housekeeping was loud too. The fire alarm went off around 2:30 a.m. on the first night for a few minutes. When I called the front desk, they said it was an accident and not to worry. It went off again around 3 p.m. on the third day, which didn’t give me much confidence in the building management. Housekeeping was another problem. They cleaned the room but didn’t make the bed. On the second night, they pounded on the door around 10:30 a.m. and woke me, then started opening it even though my Do Not Disturb sign was clearly hanging outside. I had to tell them I didn’t need cleaning, and it felt like they’d completely ignored the sign.
