Grand Hyatt Hong Kong

The pool feels like a proper resort, even though you’re in the city. The one downside was the Waterfall bar, where cigar smoke often made it unpleasant to sit around, especially with the kids and when trying to exercise. Still, I came home feeling refreshed because the stay was so comfortable. We had a beautiful harbour view, including from the bathtub, and the room was immaculate and very well equipped. I would have liked more space to hang towels, since with children I’d have reused them if I could dry them properly. Breakfast had loads of choice, and we treated ourselves to club access, where the views and relaxed dinner buffet were much appreciated after a long day seeing Hong Kong. Two metro and ferry terminals were an easy 5-10 minute walk away. As a Londoner I found that very close, though I gather Hong Kongers may think it’s far. Service was courteous and attentive without being overbearing. When I needed housekeeping help after being ill overnight, which was mortifying, the housekeeping and concierge teams were kind and quick to respond.

Getting around was easy, with attractions, restaurants, and public transport all close by. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful throughout. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well kept. I’d happily stay again and recommend it to anyone visiting.

The hotel’s location is very good, the rooms have lovely views, and the facilities, particularly the pleasantly heated pool, seemed ideal for a weekend. But the night was absolutely awful. The room next to ours had newlyweds and all their guests, and in the middle of the night we were woken by loud partying, with laughter, shouting, slamming doors, and excessive drinking. We tried asking them to quiet down, but it didn’t help. The staff had been told and knew about the disturbance, yet nobody came to check or intervene during the night. I reported it in the morning and hoped the hotel would offer some kind of goodwill gesture. The receptionist only said they’d note our name so we could get a “quiet” room on a future visit. For a hotel of Hyatt’s standing, that felt very disappointing and inadequate. This seriously affected our stay and wasn’t the level of service I’d expect from Hyatt.

The club food and setting were lovely, and the staff were helpful and accommodating. We had a harbor view room with a spectacular outlook, in a gorgeous, modern and comfortable space. The electric blinds, including by the tub, and all the lighting and little details felt very thoughtfully done. It was the most beautiful accommodation I’ve ever had, and we loved staying here after our cruise. The ferry was convenient, though there wasn’t much within walking distance and the hotel had no shops. I’d definitely come back. There are 12 restaurants and a pool.
