Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong

The family hangout area was a highlight, with healthy snacks throughout the day and fun workshops. We got to make arts and crafts to take home, which was a thoughtful touch. Breakfast was great too, with so many tasty buffet options that we looked forward to it every morning. We stayed on the 45th floor, which is specially designed for young kids. The room was spotless and comfortable, with a cute treehouse and slide our child loved. The location was convenient as well, right across from a beautiful park and within easy walking distance of lots of places. Every staff member was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. Huge thanks to the Family Experience Team, especially Celina, Steven, Joy, Ella, Yoyo and Mia, for making our stay so memorable. This completely blew us away. It's the best hotel we've stayed in, a true 6-star experience!

The staff were lovely and helpful throughout, from meals to other services. Housekeeping was attentive to small details, like replacing the dressing gown where I had left it on the bathroom door. Breakfast offered a tasty spread from different cuisines, and our NYE dinner at Lobster Bar was delicious with good-sized portions. The pool was nice, if a little small, and the gym and spa services were great. My main disappointment was the room. It felt dated, and the upholstery had stains. There was black mould along the shower tile lining, easy to miss because of the pattern, and debris in the bath. The bathroom speaker made a constant white noise that only stopped when the light was switched off. At first I thought it was playing speech at very low volume, and I couldn't turn it off, so I had to call someone to fix it. There were only about five lifts for the whole hotel, which meant long waits. Makeup remover and face moisturiser would also have been useful amenities. The view was great, the room spacious, the bed comfortable, and the TV wide. The staff and breakfast were lovely, but for this price and prestige, the room fell short of what I expected. That's arguably the most important part of a hotel.

The concierge team were extremely helpful, and the staff were very friendly. Breakfast was excellent and high quality, with a huge selection of hot and cold Chinese and Western dishes. The pool area was lovely too. The location is great, right next to a shopping centre with access to the Admiralty MTR station. The renovated room we stayed in was spacious and comfortable, with modern touches like USB sockets, rainforest showers, an automatic opening heated toilet seat, and a handy hot and cold water tap instead of a kettle. Five stars for that room. If you book, I'd suggest asking for a renovated room. The traditional rooms on floors 52-54, shown in the first three photos, are tired and much less comfortable. We were first put in one of those, and I'd give it only three stars.

Everyone was so nice and helpful during my quick business trip. The hotel is in a great, central spot and attached to shopping. Booking through Amex gets you free breakfast, which was amazing on the 56th floor with beautiful views. After a long travel day, the lobby bar was a good place for lunch, and the burger was great.
