Mojo Nomad Aberdeen Harbour by Ovolo

I stayed in an 8 bed dorm with two toilets, and I wish I'd booked this place for the rest of my temporary stay. The harbor facing shower was great, with a magnifying mirror over the sink. There’s a lounge, a separate TV room, a computer browsing area, a communal kitchen, and ample storage. Everything was well cleaned. Staff were professional and polite, and the facilities are 5star. Best Hostel Ever!! Don't think twice about booking this place. Best experience ever.

The things that made this stay miserable were constant. Our milk, cheese, and eggs disappeared from the shared refrigerator, and the kitchen had only 2 stoves for 70+ guest. The toilets on 1F were very dirty and never cleaned. The towels we got had hairs on them, and the cleaning service was poor, with a very rude team. The bed was uneven and broken. Customer service refused to replace it, so we slept on the floor. A cleaner told us to find a better place if we could and stop complaining. Two unopened perfume from Hermes were stolen by the cleaning lady, so we installed a cam in the room to monitor things. I reported it to customer service and nothing was done. The building itself had leaky, mouldy walls with several patches of black mould. The air con rattled and leaked, and the walls were like cardboard, so we heard lots of noise from neighbours. The lift broke several times, forcing us to take the staircase, which was poorly ventilated and almost made us crash while climbing. There are only 2 stoves in the kitchen for more than 70 guests. The metal workshops nearby cut steel and weld, making things smoky and dirty. There’s no restaurant or good food nearby. The TV is an old one from 2005, not a smart TV. For the price they demand, I can't believe this is all they provide. I called customer service, which I think is in Philippines. Good luck handling them. The lady at reception looks helpless and confused. My girlfriend and I literally suffered each day in the building. One of the worst place to stay in HK. Stay at your own risk.

The local fishing village and area are pretty picturesque, even though the hostel isn't near the tourist attractions. Bus 107 is very close and goes downtown, with the return stop about 1 block away. I'd stay here again and recommend it. The rooms are clean, and my dorm for 8 people has shower and restrooms at both ends, two in total. I do wish the individual beds had curtains, and the lockers are a bit small for a backpack. There's a communal kitchen, a storage room, and a small restaurant at street level. The work room/common area is great for relaxing and getting online, though I don't understand why you can't drink a beer there. That floor also has a TV room and a quiet space where you can speak on your phone without bothering others. This is the nicest hostel I've stayed at.

The hygiene is a big issue here. I found Cockroaches and lizards in the building. Most of the kitchen utensils are broken or unusable, the toaster is never cleaned, and the blender has been broken for a long time without repair. I reported a water leak to reception, but nothing was done. The indoor lighting also isn't good, it needs to be more readable and use calmer tones. Laundry isn't included and costs $50/wash, with only 3 machines for 72 tenants. Rent keeps going up by $1000 every 3 months, with no added services and no clear reason for the frequent increases or improvement in service quality. The agreed services also aren't delivered properly. The ratings are misleading. It seems this used to be a backpacker hostel and has now been remodelled as service apartment. The location is Tin wan, not far from Aberdeen. If you work in central or along the north of hk island, keep in mind that transit via Aberdeen tunnel may cause delays and is always congested during peak hours.
