At the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, the experience can differ by location and by which services you use, since it's a large organization with many offerings. Still, it's a solid option if you want a reasonably priced gym with full facilities, different classes, pools, and saunas. The flexible membership options are another plus.

I've been upgraded to a larger room on a high floor on my last 2 visits, and we'll definitely come back. The room is spacious and clean, the staff are excellent from the entrance onward, and the train station is just a 1 minute walk away.

There are plenty of short courses and interest groups at reasonable prices, and the facilities are clean and functional.

The reception staff member was very rude. The gym membership package was around 450ish for 15 days, which I was ready to buy, but she abruptly said I also had to pay about 150 ish for the first day. When I asked why, she wouldn't explain. I asked if it was for a gym introduction and said I didn't need that, but she just looked stunned and pointed at the paper, as if I should pay anyway. She didn't explain the facilities or features, just told me to pay and find out. I left, and after that I didn't want to go to any YMCA gyms.

I paid quite a sum and feel scammed. If you book through Booking.com, you may see rooms listed without photos of the actual room, only bathroom pictures. That can make it seem like the room resembles the ones shown in other photos, but it doesn't. The room I got looked totally different.
