Huangshan Zuixiang Theme Hotel

For someone who usually picks affordable mid-range hotels or motels, this place went way beyond what I expected. We arrived around 11 pm to a dark, quiet rural area, and the receptionist was incredibly kind. She checked us in quickly, offered help planning our Huangshan day trip, and even offered to carry our bags despite there being no elevator. The room felt cozy, with a round bed, two bottles of water, and four small snacks. The sink and shower were inside the room, which seemed a little unusual to us, and there was no AC, though that was fine on a June evening. Breakfast was free. In the morning, she gave us a map and a quick overview of the mountain, then offered to store our luggage until we came back the next day, also for free. A driver took us there at no charge, and she offered a discount for Huangshan Hot Springs that turned out to be well worth it. She stayed in touch through wechat, answered our questions, and helped book cars to and from the hotel and hot springs. When we changed the car time for the airport trip, she sorted it out quickly. Even after we were no longer technically guests, she kept helping us. On the bus back from the hot springs, I realized I’d left my fanny pack, with my passport and cash, behind. She immediately called the bus company, found the right bus, and arranged for it to return after finishing its route. Her help and hospitality amazed me. Maybe this kind of service is standard at high-end hotels, but it was far beyond anything I’ve experienced. I can’t imagine a better place to stay before the long trek up Huangshan.
